Oregon Logging Conference Returns for 84th Edition →

The 84th Annual Oregon Logging Conference was held at the Lane Event Center and Fairgrounds in Eugene, Ore., from Feb. 24 to 26, 2022. After celebrating the OLC in a scaled-down version in 2021, many positive comments were made this year about being able to gather in-person. Conference Manager Rikki Wellman said this year there was more equipment on display outdoors compared to previous years. And while paid registration was slightly down from the previous year, there was no dip in attendance with many industry professionals and members of the public participating in the OLC.  Click for more...


Legislative Committee Advances Rep. Evans' Bill to Bolster Job Growth in Maine's Forestry Industry →

The Legislature's Taxation Committee voted March 15 to advance a bill sponsored by Rep. Richard Evans, D-Dover-Foxcroft, aimed at strengthening job growth in Maine's forestry industry. As amended, LD 1919 creates an income tax credit for qualified timber harvesting businesses that employ new qualified employees hired in Maine that are covered by the Employment Security Law and paid an amount equal to or greater than the most recent annual per capita income in the county in which the employee is employed.  Click for more...

Third-Generation Family Business Celebrates 25 Years Back in Oregon →

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Dancer Logging Inc.'s reincarnation in Oregon. "Like a lot of loggers in this area, the presence of the spotted owl took its toll on us in the late 1980s," Pete Dancer Sr. recalled. "I finished the last contract I had and moved three sites to New Zealand in 1990. As things settled here, I started looking to come back. With kids in junior high and high school and aging parents, we felt it was a necessity." Federal Judge Halts Maine Law That Aimed to Keep Foreign Workers From Hauling Logs →

A federal judge on Feb. 18 halted enforcement of a new law that would prevent foreign truck drivers from hauling logs harvested in Maine to other locations in the state. The Maine Forest Products Council, Pepin Lumber Inc. of Franklin County and one of its truck drivers asked that Maine officials not be allowed to enforce the new logging industry regulation, saying the law was unconstitutional. John Deere has introduced new options and updates to the M-Series tracked feller bunchers, harvesters, and shovel logger. Enhancements have been made to the previously released smooth boom control (SBC), as well as improved seat and heated-ventilated seat (HVS) and premium radio that is XM ready.
