Caterpillar and Log Max of Grangarde, Sweden, announced that Log Max will acquire Caterpillar’s line of cut-to-length harvesters and forwarders used in the forestry industry. Caterpillar currently assembles three models of forwarders and four models of harvesters in Söderhamn, Sweden. The rubber-tired equipment is used to harvest and cut trees to a desired length and to remove loads of cut logs from the forest.  Click for more...

John Deere, Timberjack Take Customers Into the Woods →

Eight Southeast John Deere dealers (known as Team South) hosted a two-day extravaganza for more than 900 logging customers on April 11 and 12 in Charlotte, NC. Guests arrived Friday, April 11 and were treated to dinner and entertainment. A “Log a Load for Kids” raffle also was held. Heavy Equipment Cleans Up Storm Debris in Kansas →

At the end of January, a massive winter storm moved out of the southwest region of the United States sweeping into the Midwest dumping heavy snow, sleet and ice. In the Kansas City metropolitan area the combination of 4 in. of sleet and 2 in. of ice eventually left more than 350,000 customers without electricity. Caterpillar Inc. has purchased forestry equipment dealer Pioneer Machinery, Inc. Caterpillar will also purchase an affiliated used equipment company, Ironmart Inc., and finance company, Federal Financial Services Inc. After the acquisition, current Caterpillar dealers in the same six southeastern states will consolidate their forestry products operations and acquire a substantial ownership position in the new company. Forestry Commission Stocks Up on Firefighting Dozers →

The low-humidity South Carolina winters create peak conditions for forest fires, making the risk for blazes greater now than any other time of year. But the state is prepared with the recent purchase of 17 new Dressta TD-8H dozers that have been customized to aid in firefighting. Charlie Jones, equipment manager of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, said his organization purchased the dozers in January and received them in September.  Click for more...


Maryland Tire Plant Topples With Earthmoving Force →

The Allegany County Public Works department of the city of Cumberland, MD, selected Earthmovers Unlimited, Kylertown, PA, to perform the demolition of the three- and four-story former Kelly Tire Plant. The building, which covers approximately six acres, was built in 1918 and is constructed of a riveted steel beam construction with wooden floors and a brick facade. Earthmovers is completing the demolition, constructing an on-site drainage system, and refurbishing the adjacent structures all within a six-month period.  Click for more...
