ODOT Comes to Aid After Storms Paralyze Oregon →
On a Saturday afternoon in the middle of January, Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Transportation Maintenance Coordinator Jake Jensen was on his way back to the Veneta maintenance station after assisting co-workers with downed trees on a nearby rural highway. A severe winter storm was expected to paralyze much of western Oregon, but the forecast for the lower Willamette Valley, where Jensen worked, suggested the area would escape the worst of it. Logging equipment innovator Paul Bell of Bell Equipment died Dec. 27, 2023. He was 66. Taking the southern U.S. pine plantation and natural stand conversion applications by storm in the late ‘80s with his odd-looking three wheel feller-buncher, Bell redesigned a machine originally meant for sugar cane plantation harvesting and turned it into a highly productive and flexible timber cutting system. Weyerhaeuser Completes Sale of Initial Carbon Credit Offering →
Weyerhaeuser Company announced an agreement for the sale of nearly 32,000 forest carbon credits at $29 per credit. This agreement marks Weyerhaeuser's first transaction in the voluntary carbon market and represents the sale of all credits issued by ACR for the first year of the company's Kibby Skinner Improved Forest Management (IFM) Project in Maine. Reid Lind's alarm clock goes off hours before sunrise. In the darkness, he laces up his boots, preparing to walk in the footsteps of two great loggers — his grandpa Bob Lind and his dad Mac Lind. Sierra Pacific Industries has named Robert Hoover as vice president of resources, effective Jan. 1, 2024. He will work with SPI's team of professionals that sustainably manage the company's 2.4 million acres of timberlands and provide a steady log supply for the company's sawmills. Hoover is assuming this role following the retirement of Dan Tomascheski at the end of the year.
